HT City Youth Nexus 2014: meet the campus champs

Foot-tapping numbers and groovy moves made part one of the grand finale of HT City Youth Nexus 2014 a great success.

After cracking the ­auditions, the finalists of Campus Funk (western dance competition) and Rocknova (rock band competition) took stage at the HT City Youth Nexus 2014, to battle it out for the most coveted title.

Held at Ram Lal Anand College on Friday, the event was supported by Fever Entertainment. The day kicked off with Campus Funk, which saw free-style dance performances to Bollywood as well as international numbers by the teams. Verve – the team from Sri Venkateswara College, stood first while Zenith – the team from Daulat Ram College, were the runners-up. Next was Rocknova where the shortlisted bands ­performed to popular numbers as well as original compositions. Parhit – the band from Hindu College — won the first position while The Astral Projection – band from Ram Lal Anand College were the runners-up.

The jam session by DJ Sumit Sethi with his band Buzz Funk added to the frenzy, and the day concluded with Punjabi pop singer Dilbagh Singh’s performance that left the audience asking for more.

The rock band from Hindu College — Parhit, began its performance by ­singing Ustad Sultan Khan’s Albela Sajan Aayo Re and won the hearts of the jury and the crowd. The musicians ­followed it up with Tose Naina Laage, from the film, Anwar, and were set to perform their original composition but ran out of the allotted time. However, their initial songs were good enough to help them win the title.

VERVE (Sri Venkateswara)

The western dance team of Sri Venkateswara College — Verve, was the first to perform at the event and turned out to be a clear favourite. With its confident acrobatic moves, the team presented an effortless act and secured the first ­position. Songs such as Breakup Party, Don’t You Worry Child and Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye in its medley, were a hit.

With h­ome support and two original compositions — Devgru and Arkham, the rock band from RLA posed a threat for other participating teams. Living up to its ­reputation, the band performed well and bagged the runners-up position at the contest.

Zenith — the team from Daulat Ram College, performed on Bollywood numbers using helmets and other innovative props that complemented their dance moves. This all-girls team secured the runners-up position.
