Lok Sabha elections 2019: Admin asks parties to name booth-level representatives

Amit Khatri, deputy commissioner, Gurugram, held a meeting with the representatives of various political parties in his office at mini-secretariat to discuss the preparations for the Lok Sabha elections. Gurugram will vote on May 12 for the general elections.

The representatives were also told that the cavalcade of a candidate should not have more than 10 cars, and in case the number is more, distance will have to be maintained by the vehicles exceeding the limit.

In the meeting, deputy commissioner said till date none of the political parties had appointed booth-level workers and this must be done at the earliest. He also informed them that eight operators are working on helpline number 1950, which can be helpful in getting new voters registered.

In case, the political parties wanted to get their workers trained in the usage of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT), then the district election office could arrange it.

Khatri also informed that a candidate must add the expenses incurred on vehicles which would used for campaigning to the expenditure statement to be submitted to the poll watchdog.

All the candidates will have to maintain the campaign expenses, which will be reviewed by the election observer. The district administration will also maintain a shadow register in which the spending by every candidates will be noted, and later these two registers will be compared.

The administration will also monitor the use of social media and electronic media by the candidates of various parties. The advertisements to be released in social media would also have to be approved by media certification and advertisement committee.
