Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Sunday said vote from the ‘mahagathbandan’ (SP-BSP-RLD alliance) will go to the Congress in Amethi and Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituencies.

“I will request those who support BSP to do the same,” she told the news agency ANI.
She clarified her decision to support the Congress in Amethi and Rae Bareli was not because of any soft feeling towards it but was an attempt to “remove” the BJP from the power.
She said her party gave up the Amethi and Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seats for the Congress as she wanted the top leaders in both the seats to fight and weaken the forces of the BJP and the RSS in the country.
The former UP chief minister maintained that both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress were two sides of the same coin and didn’t deserve to return to power.
“I have asked my supporters to vote for the Congress in Amethi and Rae Bareli. The BJP and the Congress are the same. We have no coalition with the Congress, but our supporters will vote for the Congress in Amethi and Rae Bareli to defeat the BJP,” Mayawati said. In a press release later, she alleged Prime Minister Narendra Modi had adopted a divide and rule strategy to create a rift in the SP-BSP-RLD alliance in a bid to save the BJP’s honour in the next three phases of the Lok Sabha polls. The BSP chief also said Modi tried everything in his might to destroy the ‘mahagathbandhan’.
Meanwhile, addressing a rally in Cheethpur in Pratapgarh district, BSP chief Mayawati on Sunday said the party lost power due to its ‘anti-people policies’. However, she added in the same breath that the BJP was doing the same and that it would also lose power.
