50 arrested for Moradabad clash; curfew continues

At least 50 people have been arrested in connection with the communal clash in Moradabad, where curfew continued in six police station areas and hundreds of security personnel were deployed.

"The situation is Moradabad is under control and curfew is going in six police areas. 50 people have been arrested by the police in connection with the clash," Special DG (Law and Order) Brijlal told reporters in Lucknow.

He said that the incident took place on Tuesday night when Kanwariyas and another group clashed with each other leading to arson and brick batting, injuring 11 people - of which one was seriously wounded.

Heavy police force was immediately deployed, which used tear gas and fire rubber bullets to control the situation, the officer said.

Meanwhile, UP parliamentary affairs minister Lalji Verma informed the Assembly that 10 companies of the PAC, four of RAF have been deployed, while three other companies of the RAF have been summoned.
