Now, the tourists seeking any police assistance would find them cycling all around the Taj Mahal. The pollution free medium of transport, 15 such cycles were flagged off by senior superintendent of police Rajesh D Modak on Tuesday. These cyclists would conduct patrolling around the monument all through the day.

“There are restriction on plying vehicles near the monument. Thus the Agra police came up with an idea to introduce cycles for constables who would be patrolling in the vicinity of the Taj Mahal,” said the SSP after flagging off these cycle from Police Lines in Agra on Tuesday.

These geared cycles are sophisticated and can attain the speed of 50 kilometres per hour. Having hooters and reflectors in the system, cycles have their own charm and can operate in the dark too.

“Fifteen such cycles have been introduced in the first phase and would be introduced for other monuments too,” said the SSP. The cycles would keep the constables physically fit, opines the SSP and plans to introduce the concept to other monuments too.

Giving details about other tourist-friendly measures, a booklet revealing ‘Standard Operating System (SOP)’ in case of any untoward incident at hotels are also being circulated in the hotels of Agra. “Such booklets of SOP informing measures to meet out situation of urgency are also being distributed in schools,” added Modak.

Beside this, the Agra Police have planned to place suggestion books at hotels where tourists would be able to register their suggestion about the kind of policing they require.
