The Allahabad high court on Wednesday imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Ajay Singh, son of former Prime Minister VP Singh, for allegedly implicating a deputy general manager of HDFC Bank in a fake case.
Passing its directive, a division bench comprising justice Arun Tandon and justice UC Srivastava made a strong remark against Ajay Singh and quashed the FIR lodged against DK Gupta, deputy general manager of HDFC bank.
In the writ petition, Gupta alleged that Ajay Singh lodged an FIR against him at the Cantonment police station in Allahabad only to put pressure on him so that a loan amount of over Rs 40 crore may not be recovered from him.
Ajay Singh had lodged the FIR against Gupta on December 26, 2014.
According to the petitioner, Ajay Singh had taken the loan from HDFC Bank in the name of Atlantis Multiplex Private Limited on March 16, 2006. Later, the amount was enhanced to more than Rs 40 crore with interest. When the instalments were not paid, the bank started recovery proceedings.
The petitioner alleged that Ajay Singh lodged the FIR to pressure him into dropping the recovery proceedings.
