Gupta was arrested and released on bail on Sunday. The university administration took the decision after the inquiry committee declared him guilty following eyewitness accounts in its report.

The university has categorically said that Gupta would not be given admission to any of its campuses across India. Sources told HT that Gupta’s parents - MLA Pramod Gupta and his wife, did not turn up despite they were requested to visit the university in this connection.

Victim teacher Archana Shukla said that Gupta got his due but refused to say anything else. “The chief minister has assured me that no injustice or harm would be done to me. There is no reason for me to disbelieve him,” Shukla said.

The colleagues, who stood by her during this crisis, apprehending a direct or indirect attack from Gupta and his followers when the issue fades away from public memory.

“Archana must get some security. It was a good gesture on the part of the chief minister to assure her all help. But, that will not help unless she gets some kind of protection from the state,” her colleagues said. Shukla wants to forget it all and resume her normal work soon.

A member of the inquiry committee told HT that this action would send a strong message and help boost the confidence of the victim teacher and her colleagues.
