Mohd Usman, another aide of the country’s most wanted underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, was arrested outside the Charbagh railway station when he reached Lucknow from Mumbai on Friday.

He was here to meet Dawood aide Tariq Parveen who was arrested in Mumbai on Monday and is currently lodged in Lucknow district jail. Tariq, a sharpshooter, was wanted in Lucknow’s Laxmi Guest House case of 1999.

Hazratganj Circle Officer, Ashok Verma said two persons - Azizuddin Sheikh and Aqeel Ahmed, alleged henchmen of the Dawood gang, were arrested from the guesthouse in 1999 after cops recovered an AK 47, self-loading rifle and 96 live cartridges from their possession. However, Usman and Tariq, who were also present in the guesthouse, managed to give cops the slip.

The CO said Usman and Tariq were managing the finances and real estate business of D-Company in Mumbai. The duo had extorted builders and businessman to generate funds to carry out their nefarious activities. Usman had invested in several real estate projects and was involved in construction business worth Rs. 1,000 crore in Mumbai.

“We were keeping tabs on the movement of people who called up Tariq frequently. Usman came to Lucknow to provide legal aid to Tariq and was nabbed as soon as he arrived,” the CO said.
