While leaders of various political parties are in the spotlight for blowing hot and cold on their support to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati is busy gearing up her party cadre for the upcoming political battle. And she seems to be doing so away from the limelight.

Not only has the BSP finalised the candidates for 80 Lok Sabha seats in UP for the 2014 general election, it has also directed them to launch a campaign in their respective constituencies.

Mayawati is monitoring the preparation of each candidate. The zonal coordinators have been directed to submit a weekly report to the state unit party chief’s office.

She had replaced the zonal coordinators who had failed to perform in the assembly election and gave important positions to trusted workers. The party leaders have been directed to strengthen the organisation up to the booth level and hold meetings of the bhai-chara committees (brotherhood committees). “Since the party lost power in March, she has decided to keep the party workers engaged for the next fight by screening and finalising candidates for 80 Lok Sabha seats,” said a BSP leader.
