The AIUMB at its conference in Moradabad said that people belonging to Wahabi sect had illegally captured the Waqf properties during the last few years in collusion with board officials.

The AIUMB in its resolution said the state government should take immediate corrective measures to restore these properties to Sunni Muslims.

Announcing that “Wahabi” leadership was not acceptable to Sunni Muslims, the AIUMB, an apex body of Sunni Muslims, has threatened to launch agitation to protect the properties.

It may be mentioned that while Wahabi sect belongs to Deoband school of thought, Sunni Muslims are connected with moderate Barielly school and other “Khankahs” (Mazars) in the country.

The general secretary AIUMB Maulana Syed Mohd Ashraf Kichhauchvi said that 80 percent Indian Muslim population belonged to Sunni sect but minority Wahabi sect had captured their waqfs. He said the government should stop diversion of waqfs into the hands of Wahabis.

He said in order to deprive Sunnis of their Waqfs, records had also been manipulated at the Waqf board and the government should order CBI investigation into the matter. The AIUMB has also asked the government not to appoint any person of Wahabi sect as chairman of the UP Waqf board in future.
