Taking serious note of the crop losses suffered by farmers due to rain and hailstorm, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav ordered release of Rs. 200 crore from state’s contingency fund for their relief.
At the same time, he ordered suspension of recovery of dues from farmers and warned officials against any harassment.
The chief minister also directed officials to distribute the compensation with immediate effect, besides ordering Rs. 5 lakh for next of kin of any farmer who died due to the rain and hailstorm.
This amount is apart from the Rs. 2 lakh insurance money for them.
Yadav asked officials concerned to help farmers, who lost their entire Rabi crop, cultivate zaid (generally vegetables) as alternative crop so that they could overcome the losses.
“The CM has released Rs. 200 crores from the state’s emergency fund and directed chief secretary Alok Ranjan to suspend recovery of dues from farmers,” said the chief minister office.
The CM directed officials to give double the amount earmarked by the Centre for natural calamities from the state government’s contingency fund, besides ordering appointment of principal secretary rank officers to distribute the relief amount.
