All India Congress Committee secretary Parvez Hasmi told office-bearers of the party’s state unit at a meeting to organise block-level meetings.

He said grassroots workers should be involved in strengthening the organisation. He laid emphasis on boosting the organisation in urban areas.

Referring to a purported rift between state Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi and Congress legislature party chief Pramod Tiwari, Hasmi said there could be differences on some issues but the state unit was by and large united.

Joshi garlanded Tiwari on the occasion and denied any rift within the state unit.

The Congress, which has already announced its first list of candidates for the polls, is scheduled to release its second list by the end of the month.

Ongoing talks with the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) for electoral alliance could delay the announcement.

Joshi directed the party’s district units to complete the formation of the booth-level committees by November. The state Congress committee has decided to hold a delegates’ meeting at the block-level from November 1 to 7.

Tiwari said those who had already been nominated for the polls should start campaigning and claimed political conditions were favourable for the Congress.
