Contractual teachers demanding appointment as primary teachers today clashed with police here, leaving many people injured, including an SSP, police said.
The incident took place at Shaheed Smarak when Siksha Mitra (contractual teachers) got agitated and started brickbatting, prompting police to resort to lathicharge and open fire in the air to disperse the angry protestors.

Many agitators and policemen, including SSP Lucknow Rajiv Krishna, were injured in the clash.
The protesting teachers were demanding that they be given priority in appointment as primary teachers by the state government.
Senior officials have reached the spot, where the situation was stated to be under control.
