Criminal wanted by two states, CBI shot dead

A criminal wanted by the police of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and the Central Bureau of Investigation in 19 criminal cases was today shot dead in a gun battle with police, an official said.

A criminal wanted by the police of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 19 criminal cases was today shot dead in a gun battle with police, an official said.

Rinku Tiwari alias Satyendra Tiwari was gunned down by the sleuths of the Special Operation Group (SOG) of the Uttar Pradesh Police, near Atrakhari locality in Varanasi district, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Brij Lal told reporters here.

Tiwari was carrying a total reward of Rs.100,000 on his head, he added.

According to police, the SOG officials, acting on a tip-off, stopped a Qualis SUV that Tiwari was driving.

Tiwari opened fire at them and was later killed in the retaliatory firing, police said.

Two pistols and several live cartridges were recovered from Tiwari, who was also wanted for the murder of Congress leader Chandra Singh in Haryana.
