The deceased were identified as Chitra, a teacher at Hanshkeda primary school on the city’s outskirts, and her grandmother, Angoori Devi. They stayed in a house that was bought only four years ago and did not have much interaction with the neighbours. The old woman used to walk with the support of walkers while Chitra, who was unmarried, used to spend most of her time in school. She used to leave house as early as 8am and return by 5pm.

According to reports, the milk vendor was the first to alert the neighbours after nobody responded when he went to deliver milk at around 10.30am. The victims’ neighbour, Pawan Verma, found the two bodies lying in the house when he went to crosscheck their wellness. He then informed the police.

Pundir said a person familiar to the victims was apparently involved in the crime because there was no forced entry in the house. He said, “There were two pet dogs and neighbours said the dogs did not bark all through the night. The pets would have made a noise had any unfamiliar person entered the house.”He said though the victims did not have any close kin, some of their distant relatives came after being informed about the incident. “They did not raise suspicion on anyone. The neighbours however talked about some men wearing turbans, who frequently visited the house,” added Pundir.

Thye cop said the victims’ neighbour Pawan Verma lodged an FIR of murder against unidentified assailants. “Some primary suspects have been called for interrogation and further probe is on to work out the case,” he said.
