Hundreds of students across the country will be apprised about the working of the Parliament and its etiquettes in the next few weeks as part of a learning activity planned by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs in collaboration with Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs).
Students of Standard V and above will be have 'zero periods', which will be apart from the regular classes. They will be made to debate and take 'decisions' upon various 'policies' in the nation.
In all, 90 schools have been engaged in the process where each school will compete at the regional level and then at zonal and national levels to win the 'Best Team' title.
Apart from making students aware about the functioning of the parliament, this programme aims at building self-discipline and leadership qualities among them.
"The aim is to make students aware of the basics of the parliament so that they develop their own perception about politics and parliament before reaching the college level," said Ramesh Chandra Mohanty, under secretary, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

{{/usCountry}}Mohanty was in Lucknow to conduct an orientation programme for Kendriya Vidyalaya teachers. Teachers, who have gathered from different regions such as Guwahati, Patna, Silchar and Kolkata, will conduct 'Mock Parliament' with students in their schools and also train other teachers to help them.
"Two orientation programmes have already been held and this is the third one. The process will continue for the next few weeks before we begin the 'Mock Parliament' at schools and finally go for the competition at the school level," said Kalavati, assistant commissioner, KVS Academics.
