Though the victim managed to save her face by covering it with her hands, she suffered severe burn injuries on her back and other body parts. She is currently being treated at a private hospital where her condition is said to be stable.

The culprit, who fled after the incident, has been identified as Prince Kapoor, a jewellery shop owner of Samba area in Jammu.

“An FIR has been lodged against Prince on the basis of a complaint filed by the girl’s family. A police team has been dispatched to arrest the accused,” said captain MM Beg, superintendent of police, rural. Accused Prince and the victim were batchmates in Class 12 when the latter’s father was posted in Samba in 2009.

Meanwhile, Prince kept on pestering the girl through phone calls and SMSs. When she continued to ignore him, he arrived to the town on Tuesday and chased her. On her refusal to talk to him, Prince threw acid on her and fled. Hearing her screams, passersby reported the incident to her family.
