They feel that in the absence of a students’ body, aspiring lawyers are unable to raise their voice on issues concerning their career, academics and facilities on the campus. They, however, maintained that they are not in favour of an election in the National Law University.

“There must be a nominated student representative, who may reach out to the university for intervention when required,” a student said. Samajwadi Party Chhatra Sabha state chief Rajpal Kashyap also supported the demand for a students’ body.

“This will help students to put forward their grievances directly to chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, who is also the chancellor of the university,” Kashyap said while speaking at the inaugural session of a weeklong youth awareness programme of SP at the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University.

The students are planning to reach out to the chief minister. “We want better placements. The V-C has assured us of every possible help from his end, which is fine, but we want the CM to help our cause,” said another aspiring lawyer. Notably, the youth awareness programme was coordinated by Dalsher Singh and presided by Lohia Vahini Samajwadi Party state presidents Rajpal Kashyap and Nirbhay Singh Patel.

The youth awareness programme would continue till September 21 and includes tree plantation, discussions on government policies, discussion on students’ problems and role of students in nurturing democratic values.

Kashyap, while addressing the students on Saturday, delivered a talk on the ideas and principles of great socialist thinker Dr Ram Manohar Lohia. RMLNLU proctor AP Singh was also present on the occasion.
