Those arrested were identified as Devdatt Shukla, a resident of Pratapgarh; Sushil Mishra of Allahabad; Manish Chauhan of New Delhi and Gaurav Raj of Vaishali district, Bihar, whose father is a homeopathic doctor.

All of them were arrested from a call centre that they were running from a rented accommodation in Vivek Khand, Gomti Nagar, to make calls to people offering them franchise of customer service centres of banks (also known as kiosk banking). Such service centres of nationalised banks operate in rural areas.

The miscreants were operating through a fake company ‘wintowin’ on whose website (www.wintowin.in) they had also uploaded the Prime Minister’s photo to mislead people.

A police team from Chhattisgarh was in Lucknow on Monday to arrest the gang members in connection with an FIR lodged against the fake company at Ramanuj Nagar district, Chhattisgarh, where they duped a large number of people.

The miscreants had fraudulently collected several lakhs by duping people in Chhattisgarh.

According to reports, the cyber cell of the Lucknow police was roped in after cops from Chhattisgarh arrived here to nab the culprits.

Arun Kumar Singh, in-charge cyber cell and Vijay Veer Singh Sirohi, inspector, cyber cell and its other members were tasked with the responsibility to arrest the miscreants.

After surveillance of cell phone numbers, cops came to know that the gang was running a call centre from a rented accommodation in Vivek Khand, Gomti Nagar. The police carried out a raid and arrested four persons.

The miscreants used to make calls to people already running customer service centres, after procuring their phone numbers from the Internet.

“They used to lure them by offering franchise of another customer service centre, which they could run in names of their relatives. Willing customers were asked to deposit Rs 1,500 in company’s bank account and thereafter they were asked to deposit Rs 6,500 for purchasing point of sale (POS) machine,” said Arun Kumar Singh.

A POS is an electronic device that is used to process card payments.

Later in the day, the four cyber thugs were sent to jail. The Chhattisgarh police were likely to take their transit remand from court on Tuesday for taking them to Chhattisgarh.
