Major rivers in UP on rise, as rains lash state

With moderate to heavy rains lashing Uttar Pradesh since last evening, major rivers including Ganga have again started swelling in some districts of the state, official sources said.

With moderate to heavy rains lashing Uttar Pradesh since last evening, major rivers including Ganga have again started swelling in some districts of the state, official sources said.

According to the Central Water Commission report, Ganga was rising in Phaphamau and Chatnag in Allahabad, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Ghazipur and Ballia, whereas Ramganga was swelling in Bareilly district.

Yamuna rose in Agra, Hamirpur, Banda and Allahabad, while Sharda swelled at Kheri district.

Ghaghra, which had already played havoc in several districts of eastern UP, was rising at Ayodhya and Ballia, whereas river Rapti was rising in Shravasti and Basti.

According to MET office, some of the districts, which witnessed rainfall included Kalpi 78.8 mm, Shahjahanpur 31 mm, Bareilly 26 mm, Bulandshahar 25.8 mm, Bijnore 22 mm.

Etawah recorded 29 mm rainfall followed by Jhansi 28.8 mm, Hamirpur 19 mm, Banda 18.5 mm, Kannauj 11 mm and Phaphamau 10.2 mm.

The MET department has forecast heavy rains in some parts of the state.
