The agitation, which began in Firozabad last week, spread to Agra and on Tuesday reached Mathura.

“Dairy owners are paying us lower rates for milk while we have to incur higher expenses,” stated one of the milkmen during the protest, expressing solidarity with the agitation while threatening to stop milk supply in Mathura.

They complained that with the fall in demand after the marriage season, dairies and chilling plants were paying only Rs 26 per litre of milk.

“Selling our milk for anything less than Rs 40 is bound to bring losses as even invested money is not being recovered these days,” stated one Raghuraj Singh during the protest.
