Minister of state for zoo and in-charge, Lucknow affairs Shiv Prakash Yadav had a strong message for builders indulging in illegal constructions.

“There would be no half demolitions of illegal structures now. The entire building will be demolished if there’s any violation of law,” he said. The minister was speaking during a Janata Darshan organised at his residence on Tuesday to listen to people’s LDA-related grievances.

He said LDA officials should not show any mercy on illegal constructions and go ahead with the demolition of the full structure if it is constructed in violation of law. “This would act as a deterrent. However, the final decision would be taken after more deliberations,” added Yadav.

The daylong Janata Darshan turned out to be an eye-opener for the minister.

During the interaction at his residence, he was shocked to hear about gross violation of rules by land mafia that has targeted schools, parks and other public land for illegal construction activities.

Around 30 complaints were taken up for hearing during the day. The minister gave a patient hearing to each complainant and tried to solve the matters there and then.

Yadav was angry to hear about the illegal construction at Ramadhin Singh Inter College in Babuganj when a social activist, Sanjay Azad, approached him with an application in this regard.

The minister issued directives to seal the two guesthouses being operated on the college premises along with the other commercial establishments running there illegally.

“How could LDA engineers sit quietly when the illegal construction had been on in the school since 2001. If the JE and the AE of the area don’t act, then suspend them. And tell me about the action taken during these years within 24 hours,” the minister curtly told LDA officials present on the occasion.

Yadav also sought a detailed report over the inaction of LDA engineers.

He assured applicants that action would be taken if laws were violated.

Similarly, shopkeepers of Khazana Market in Ashiana approached him, saying that their shops hadn’t been registered for the last 20 years despite payment of charges.

LDA officials told the minister that Ansals had violated parking norms by selling shops inside the basement and that’s why the registry of shops could not be done.

The minister ordered demolition of shops in the basement and asked officials to register the other shops in a month.

The shopkeepers also complained about a temple being constructed at Khazana Market complex, over which t he minister ordered an inquiry.

Similarly, residents of Khurshed Bagh came with a complaint against a builder who was getting the historic gate demolished to make way for a shopping complex.

The engineer of the area was taken to task and the minister ordered action in the case.

The Ashiana takeover issue was also raised by the members of residents’ association. Yadav assured them of prompt action.

The maximum number of complaints were received from LDA Colony, Ashiana. These included cases of illegal construction of duplex houses.

One such case was of Saran Kaur, who accused her neighbour of constructing a room on her garden land. The minister ordered immediate action in the case.

Talking to HT after the Janata Darshan, he said: “I have decided to trim the LDA engineering department that has 40 excess JEs. They would be sent to corporations where there is a dearth of engineers. I have also sought details of such buildings that were completed despite being sealed by the LDA. Such things cannot happen without involvement of LDA engineers.”

The minister said he would hold a meeting with the district magistrate, police, LMC and LDA officials to promote better coordination in action against erring builders.
