"The BSP government has not recommended a CBI probe into the attack on Nandi. This shows there was involvement of those close to the CM in the attack," SP leader Shivpal Singh Yadav told reporters in Lucknow.

He said he had met the Governor and the Vidhan Sabha Speaker and pressed for a CBI probe into the attack, but the Mayawati government had done nothing in this regard.

"Why the government is shying away from recommending a CBI probe?" asked the Leader leader of the Opposition in the legislative assembly.

BSP leader Nandi was injured and a journalist and another person were killed in an explosion at the residence of the Minister in Allahabad on July 12.

Shivpal, brother of SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, alleged the Chief Minister and a section of the bureaucracy in Uttar Pradesh were involved in minting money.
