A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) in Ballia to provide free LPG connections to the poor, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said though the PM had made arrangements for gas cylinders, money to buy fuel was being provided by the state government.
“He has arranged gas cylinders but from where will the poor get money to fill them? We are making arrangements for it through the Samajwadi Pension,” the CM said while addressing a gathering at Basantpur, Ballia after laying the foundation of a university, in the name of former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, and a sports college.
Yadav highlighted several initiatives taken by his government during the last four years for development of the state. He specially mentioned the Samajwadi Pension scheme, saying 55 lakh people were being benefited across the state and of them 65,000 were from Ballia.
He said that 102 and 108 ambulance services had proved to be a boon for the poor, adding that the state government was committed to extending health services to all. The CM further said that on the lines of ambulance services, the ‘100’ service of police was undergoing upgradation and would be completed by July.
Thereafter, police would reach any crime spot within 10 minutes. He also said the government was working tirelessly to improve the condition of roads. “The 324-km Agra-Lucknow Expressway construction has been completed. It will be dedicated to the nation by October. The work on Samajwadi Poorvanchal Expressway that would connect Ghazipur, Ballia to Lucknow would also be completed soon,” Akhilesh said.
