Rahul Gandhi surprises locals at a Lucknow restaurant

The Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi today found some time out for himself taking lunch at a posh city restaurant - relishing choicest delicacies there.

The Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday found some time out for himself taking lunch at a posh city restaurant - relishing choicest delicacies there.

Rahul wished happy birthday to a visiting girl and posed for pictures with others enjoying the meals at the restaurant giving a surprise to all those present there.

Rahul's move not only came as a surprise to the security personnel accompanying him, it also delighted the visitors at the restaurant and his partymen alike.

"It was a pleasant surprise for all of us," said Shweta who along with her friends had come to the restaurant to enjoy party.

"We were not allowed close to his table for security reasons. But Rahul agreed to our request for a photograph," said Shweta.

After summing up his three-day tour to Amethi, Rahul drove straight to Lucknow and reached the Aryans restaurant at the Mahatama Gandhi Marg opposite Raj Bhawan.

Saumya, who was enjoying her birthday with her friends at the restaurant, said she was also amused to see Rahul there. "Rahul wished me happy birthday," said Saumya, adding, she also appreciated Rahul for the fabulous work he had been doing.

Restaurant owner Rahul Khanna said Rahul Gandhi paid his bill and wrote down his remarks in the visitor book.

Rahul also observed that everything was pretty good at the restaurant and he would like to pay a visit again, added Khanna.

A large crowd gathered in front of the restaurant as the news about Rahul's presence there reached people. Some Congress workers began raising slogans of 'Rahul Gandhi Zindabad' as well.

After having food Rahul went to Raj Bhawan to meet Governor BL Joshi. Sources in Raj Bhawan described the visit as a courtesy call. "Governor has family relations with the Gandhi family. So nothing much should be read in the meeting," said the source.

Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) spokesman Akhilesh Pratap Singh also described Rahul's visit to Raj Bhawan as a courtesy call.

Before leaving for New Delhi Rahul also had political discussions with the Congress Legislature Party leader Pramod Tiwari and other leaders present at Amausi airport, he said.

In Amethi, Rahul visited a mosque to greet the people on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. He also inaugurated the Community Resource Centre of Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust at Munshiganj crossing in his constituency.
