The decision to appoint a consortium of three firms as advisor for the Rs. 300 crore project was taken by the bid evaluation committee (BEC) headed by infrastructure and industrial development commissioner Anil Kumar Gupta on Friday.

To be developed on public-private partnership model, the stadium and cricket academy with a capacity to seat 50,000 people would come up on 50 acres of land on Sultanpur Road in the first phase.

Another 37 acres in the vicinity would be used for real estate to make the project commercially viable for the developer. The state government has earmarked around 137 acres of land for the purpose. The remaining land would be set aside for the second phase in which additional sports infrastructure for indoor games, aquatics, hockey, football, track and field events would be developed.

Gupta said though there were many players in the Indian Cricket team from UP, the state lacked a cricket stadium of international standards. He said the project part of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s development agenda would be accorded top priority and completed in a time-bound manner.
