The decision to appoint a consortium of three firms as advisors for the Rs. 300 crore project was taken by the bid evaluation committee (BEC) headed by the infrastructure and industrial development commissioner Anil Kumar Gupta on Friday.

To be developed on public-private partnership (PPP) model, the stadium and cricket academy will have a capacity to seat 50,000 people and would come up on 50 acres of land on the Sultanpur Road.

Another 37 acres in the vicinity would be used for real estate to make the project commercially viable for the developer. The state government has earmarked around 137 acres of land for the purpose. The remaining land would be set aside for the second phase of the project in which additional sports infrastructure for indoor games, aquatics, hockey, football, track and field events would be developed.

Gupta said that even though there were many players in the Indian cricket team from Uttar Pradesh, the state lacked a cricket stadium of international standards. He said the project is part of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s development agenda and would be given top priority and completed in a time-bound manner.
