Two more die, 45 fresh swine flu cases in city

Two more patients succumbed to swine flu in the state capital on Saturday. While this takes the total number of deaths to 12 in the city, health officials put the figure at eight. The two patients who succumbed to H1N1 were identified as Manju, 40, a native of Kanpur Dehat and a 10-year-old boy of Faizabad district.

Two more patients succumbed to swine flu in the state capital on Saturday. While this takes the total number of deaths to 12 in the city, health officials put the figure at eight. The two patients who succumbed to H1N1 were identified as Manju, 40, a native of Kanpur Dehat and a 10-year-old boy of Faizabad district.

Moreover, the state capital also reported 45 new cases on the day, taking the total number of H1N1 positive patients in Lucknow to 467. Officials said another case was reported from Bareilly as well, taking the total number of swine flu positive patients is 569 in the state. While 1,456 patients have been screened in UP so far, Lucknow has the maximum number of cases in the 21 districts where the disease has been reported.

“Of the total cases reported in Lucknow, 37 are from KGMC and eight from SGPGI. Rapid response teams have been sent to give medical help and awareness to the patients’ families,” said chief medical officer Dr SNS Yadav, adding that he had taken a round of all the patients admitted in hospitals here. “Till now about 300 patients have recovered from influenza A H1N1 in Lucknow,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Indian Medical Association organised lectures to discuss the status of swine flu in the state capital. Dr Rama Srivastava, Dr Vishwajeet Singh and Dr Amita Jain interacted with the gathering and answered questions.

The district administration has also decided to run massive awareness drive in all schools and colleges and all the children and schools teachers will be told about the ‘do’s and don’ts’.
