To start with, it plans to conduct the statewide celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi birth anniversary on October 2.

More and more people will be roped in and asked to take a pledge to uphold the Gandhian principles.

“We will mobilise people at such programmes,” said a senior party leader.

Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) is also being revamped to give the organisation a new look.

“We hope to complete the process of revamping the party organisation in two phases. In the first phase, new District Congress Committees (DCCs) and City Congress Committees will be constituted. A new UPCC team will be announced once the process to constitute the district and city party units is complete. We will turn into poll mode soon thereafter,” said another leader.

An announcement about the new district and city units may be made this week. On UPCC team, sources pointed out that the party high command favours a trim organisation with less than 100 member committee.

On efforts to bring all opposition parties together to fight the BJP, Babbar said the people wanted unity in opposition ranks.

“It’s important to check division of votes and move forward together but the decision in this regard would be taken only by party high command,” said Babbar.
