Irked over the ‘insensitivity’ of the state government towards their long-pending demands, the secondary education teachers have threatened to court mass arrest on July 15. The teachers under the banner of Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh (UPMSS) sought a government order meeting their demands.
Among the 14 point demands, the teachers want an immediate amendment in salaries, a pension structure, as set by the state government besides an increase in remuneration given for evaluation.
“The state government headed by chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has been fooling us with false promises. We will intensify our agitation if the demands are not met by July 15,” Chet Narayan Singh, UPMSS state president told mediapersons here on Thursday.
To give voice to their demands, UPMSS would conduct statewide protests from July 15, which will include torch light procession, rallies and demonstrations outside the offices of education department.
“For last one year we have been negotiating with the state government. Chief minister, who is also in charge of the department, assured us that all our demands would be met. We won’t give up our strike unless a government order detailing our demands is issued,” Mahendra Nath Rai, UPMSS spokesperson said.
Some of the major demands of the teachers include regularisation along with benefits to CT grade teachers who have been promoted to LT grade, implementation of pension policy in any form for teachers appointed after April 1, 2005 and provision for accidental claim. Teachers are also demanding LT grade for those without a post graduate degree and have urged the state government to declare ad hoc teachers in unaided schools as full-time teachers.
