A day after army was called out in Muzaffarnagar to control communal violence that left many dead and scores injured, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Sunday coined a new slogan – ‘namazwadi sarkar’ – to slam the Samajwadi Party (SP) government over the riots in Uttar Pradesh. This was being circulated through SMSes.

Also, the RSS leaders in the state started circulating another SMS, describing Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi as the ‘popular choice’, to reap political mileage in UP’s communal cauldron.

The RSS-VHP-BJP are expected to keep targeting the UP government, at least till Modi arrives for rallies in various parts of UP from October onwards.

However, a source said that while the VHP and other constituents of the Sangh Parivar were expected to go full throttle against the UP government, the BJP would be seen “taking a balanced stand.”

A BJP source explained that the party wanted to showcase Modi as a leader who was capable of taking everyone, including the Muslims, along.

“If Muslims in Modi’s Gujarat can prosper, there is no reason why they can’t in other parts of the state. To drive this message home, attempts would be made to secure attendance of minorities at Modi’s rallies in UP,” a BJP source suggested.
