The film focusses on a 40-something Brooklyn-based couple. He (Stiller) is a non-fiction filmmaker struggling for the better part of a decade to edit his purported magnum opus down to a reasonable length.
After two miscarriages, his wife (Watts), the daughter of a renowned documentarian (old-timer Charles Grodin) is aware that she’s probably not going to have any children. In a desperate bid to recapture their adolescence, the older couple jettisons their age-appropriate friends and begins hanging around with their new acquaintances who defiantly embrace all things retro.
The narrative moves at a breezy pace but tends to lose momentum towards the underdeveloped climax. While We’re Young offers 97 minutes of old-school cinematic bliss.
