10 of marriage party die after vehicle collides with truck in Maharashtra

Locals nab truck driver, block road in protest.

At least 10 people of a marriage party were killed and five injured in a road accident near Lakhni in Bhandara district of Maharashtra late on Monday evening. The accident took place around 9.30 pm on the Mumbai-Kolkata national highway.

According to reports, the marriage party was coming from Sakoli on a jeep and was hit by a truck from the opposite direction.

RS Pawar, the highway police inspector, informed that at least six to seven people died on the spot and the rest on their way to the local civil hospital. “We have no knowledge yet whether the bride or the groom were among the victims,” he added.

All the injured were admitted to Bhandara civil hospital where the condition of three is stated to be critical.

Vehicular traffic on the highway was disrupted by locals after the incident. They also nabbed the truck driver. Hundreds gathered at the site and blocked the road in protest.
