Police said the businessman, Ankur Singh, had retrieved the jewellery from his bank locker to wear it to a wedding. En route, he had stopped to meet a friend, parking the car opposite his house. The two accused smashed the car’s window and fled with the jewellery bag.

Singh found out about the burglary after a business associate, who was on his way to the meeting, called him saying his car’s window was shattered.

The incident was captured on CCTV cameras, the tapes of which were handed over to the police. The footage is grainy, and police thus are interrogating history-sheeters to identify the thieves. “We have filed a case and are investigating,” said an officer of the Kolshewadi police station.
