Two Pune-bound flights had to be diverted to Mumbai on Sunday after an Air India aircraft developed a technical snag during take-off, resulting in smoke that affected visibility at the airport.

According to airport director Ajay Kumar, two SpiceJet flights — Goa-Pune and Kochi-Pune — were diverted to Mumbai as the runway at Pune airport was rendered out-of-service for an hour in the afternoon.

The 25 passengers of the Pune-Delhi Air India flight were forced to disembark after smoke began emanating. Earlier, the same flight, which was scheduled to fly out on Saturday evening, had to be rescheduled for Sunday afternoon due to a technical snag.
