34 trade unions to protest in Mumbai against NDA’s anti-labour policies

Their contention is that the NDA is following a policy that is against the welfare of the workers and the protest will be an attempt to voice their discontent

On International Workers’ Day on Tuesday, workers affiliated to various trade unions will organise a rally at Azad Maidan, Fort, to protest against anti-labour policies being pursued by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government.

Their contention is that the NDA government is following a policy that is against the welfare of the workers and the protest will be an attempt to voice their discontent.

These include — the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU), All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), the United Trade Union Congress (UTUC), Rashtriya Mill Mazdoor Sangh (RMMS) and the Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS).

According to Wishwas Utgi, who is the main conveyor of TUJAC, the main aim of the government was to finish the labour class.

“The labour laws amendments are fashioned to deprive the labour class of all the benefits they have achieved in the last 70 years,” said Utgi.

The present government at the Centre has been constantly under fire for favouring bids with industrial corporations at the cost of the labour class.

However, the government has been constantly countering this claim by saying that though some antiquated labour laws have been scrapped, nothing was being done to compromise the interests of the working class.
