The police arrested six people for their involvement in the murders. The accused have been identified as Rishi Ashok Kale,19, Tithaya Kale alias Anil,30, Namdev Bhosle alias Mathys,19, Sachin Kale alias Nagesh,20, Dola Bhosle alias Akash,20, and Nilesh Bhosle alias Govind,20, were arrested on Friday from Pimpri railway station in Pune. They were produced in a local court, which remanded them in police custody till September 12.

The accused were traced using their cellphone location and the peculiar weapon — an axe —they used to murder the victims before fleeing with cash and jewellery.

An officer from Alephata police station said, “We zeroed in on their whereabouts using their cellphone location. During interrogation, the accused confessed to killing three people in Mauje village at Ulhasnagar before feeling with the booty worth Rs4.92 lakh. The Thane police has been informed about the developments.”

On June 23 three members of Bhandari family — Shankar,62, his wife Fasubai,46, and their son Shani,22 — were attacked with an axe on their heads. Later, a murder case was registered at the Hill Line police station, whose officers started probing the case along with the local unit of the crime branch.
