The state government on May 23 accorded Mhada the status of planning authority.

Among them, Trimurti Cooperative Housing society based in Kurla was given occupation certificate (OC) by Mhada. Other proposals that have been received include issuance of intimation of disapproval (IOD), no objection certificates (NOC) and approvals.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had said the move to give Mhada the status of planning authority was to get over red-tapism and ensure speedy redevelopment of Mhada colonies. Vaishali Wagh, public relations officer (PRO), Mhada, said the housing body has got “fabulous response” in the past three weeks. “We are seeing many pending proposals now being cleared and this ultimately means more affordable housing stock in the market,” said Wagh.

Mhada has 114 layouts spread across Mumbai. They are located in areas like Malad, Kalachowki, Goregaon, Bandra, Santacruz, Andheri, Borivli, Vikhroli, Chembur, Kurla and Dahisar. With hardly any land inventory left in its kitty, Mhada, which is the landlord of these plots, is seeking to exploit them to generate a handsome stock of affordable houses.
