The woes continued for the general public as ATMs remained shut in the in cities because of shortage of bank notes and recalibration of the new currency.

The situation has compounded as all banks are closed on Monday because of Guru Nanak Jayanti and people wanting to withdraw cash for daily use were stuck because ATMs were shut.
“We have increased the withdrawal limit to Rs 2,500. In cities where banks are shut, we already stored cash from banks and started loading from 6am. We may face challenges in Tier-3 and 4 cities,” said an official spokesperson from SecureValue India, a subsidiary of AGS Transact Technologies.
However, banking officials said that ATMs are likely to open in the second half of the day, although there is no elaborate information on the same.
People wanting to withdraw according to the increased limits specified on Sunday may have to wait till the ATMs are operational.
