Brace for bumpy Mumbai commute: Delays, cancellations, crowds on harbour line today

The block is likely to affect suburban services on Mumbai’s harbour line

Travel on the harbour line? Brace for trouble. The Central Railway (CR) is set to begin its four-day-long block on the line that connects Navi Mumbai on Friday early morning.

Work on the 27-km-long Belapur-Seawoods-Uran railway line project is scheduled to start on 2 am on Friday. During the block, railway authorities will remodel the Belapur station yard and so the line between Seawoods and Belapur will be cut and connected to the newly constructed railway lines. Other lines will be realigned.

The block is likely to affect suburban services on the harbour line. Trains are expected to be delayed and crowded. CR officials said 34 services will be cancelled.

However, 34 special services will be operational so commuters are not inconvenienced. These include 18 Panvel, four Nerul, 10 Vashi and two Mankhurd services.

CR plans to run eight trains originating from platform three of Belapur station and one from Vashi during the morning peak hour. During the evening peak hour, five of eight services originating from Belapur will go up to Panvel, while one will be terminated at Vashi. The other two will be cancelled. Of 65 services originating and terminating at Belapur during the non-peak hours, 31 will be cancelled, 18 services will be extended to Panvel, four will be terminated at Nerul, 10 at Vashi and 2 at Mankhurd.
