The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to file a charge sheet against gangster Rajendra Nikhalje alias Chhota Rajan in the designated Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime act (MCOCA) court in the J Dey murder case on Monday.
The central agency had taken over investigations recently, after filing a fresh first information report (FIR) as per the procedure. The CBI officials have filed a case under sections 302 of the Indian Penal Code (punishment for murder) and section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) in addition to the relevant sections of the Arms Act.
Dey was shot dead in Powai on June 11, 2011, when he was on his way home on his motorcycle. The Mumbai crime branch, which investigated the case, had booked 11 people in the case, including journalist Jigna Vora. One of the accused, Vinod Asrani, passed away recently. According to the crime branch case, the conspiracy to kill Dey was hatched at the behest of Rajan.
Earlier in December 2015, the Mumbai crime branch had filed an application before the special MCOCA court which is hearing the J Dey murder case, stating they had sent a letter to the state government requesting the trial in the case, along with other cases involving Rajan, be transferred to the CBI to avoid duplication of proceedings. A few days later, a production warrant was issued by the court against Rajan, who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in New Delhi.

{{/usCountry}}Rajan, who was arrested in Indonesia, was deported to New Delhi in the first week of November 2015. The Maharashtra government has already transferred all cases against Rajan to the CBI. The J Dey murder case is one of the prominent cases against the gangster.
