The Congress on Saturday alleged Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) Poonam Mahajan has become a wilful defaulter and that she is not eligible to take further loans from banks. It said there should be a probe into her assets, which rose to Rs108 crore in 2014 from Rs12 crore in 2009, according to election affidavits.

Refuting the allegations, Mahajan said she has already paid her dues by selling her property.
Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant said, “CIBIL has put her on the wilful defaulters list along with Nirav Modi, Vijay Mallya, etc. and Mahajan has become ineligible to take further loan.” Sawant also claimed the BJP MP has concealed information about her involvement with three firms, which violates the Representation of the People Act 1951. “We plan to approach court on this issue,” he said.
Mahajan recently declared her assets were worth Rs2.20 crore.
“As stated before, my husband’s business failed, and we have earnestly paid back all banks by selling all of my and my family’s personal assets, including my house and jewellery. We have also followed the due process while doing the same,” she said in a statement.
