A special Mumbai court sentenced 25-year old Ankur Panwar to death on Thursday for throwing acid at 23-year-old nurse Preeti Rathi for rejecting his marriage proposal three years earlier. Rathi succumbed to multiple organ failure a month after the attack. People took to Twitter to laud the court’s decision, with many terming it a landmark judgement and calling for more stringent punishment for those accused of acid attacks.
