Thanks to shrinking queues, and a better cash flow and management at banks and ATMs, Mumbai citizens expect the worst demonetisation days are over.

On Thursday, people standing in lines outside banks claimed they received cash or exchanged old notes within an hour.

“Banks seem organised now. The commotion has been taken care of,” said Harish Yadav, who had waited for five hours at a Borivli bank on the second day to withdraw money. “I have been standing only for 25 minutes and I am very close to withdraw my money,” he added.

“First quarter of the day, some take responsibility to keep the lines in order. In the second quarter, we shift to the counters,” said a Borivli bank employee, adding, “Even during the lunch time, while one group has food, the other one manages the queues.”

Another Borivli bank customer, Mahesh Gosavi, who was waiting outside an ATM kiosk, said he is happy with the cash flow and prompt actions from the Centre.

“Within a week, they managed to cater to the whole nation. This shows they all worked hard and in tandem,” Mahesh added.
