Fadnavis flags off 15-year Global Citizen India drive

Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, Katrina Kaif, Farhan Akhtar, Shraddha Kapoor, AR Rahman, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Arjun Kapoor, Arijit Singh, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Monali Thakur will also participate in the festival.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday flagged off the ‘Global Citizen India’ initiative that aims at a 15-year campaign to mobilise social change in the country.

Global Citizen, the international social action platform, is bringing Coldplay, the British rock band, for a charity concert to be held on November 19 in Mumbai. It will be a part of its inaugural festival.

Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, Katrina Kaif, Farhan Akhtar, Shraddha Kapoor, AR Rahman, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Arjun Kapoor, Arijit Singh, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Monali Thakur will also participate in the festival.

In its first year, Global Citizen India will offer a wide cross-section of content and action that will focus on creating meaningful impact in three key areas — quality education, gender equality, and clean water & sanitation, declared Shiv Khemka, chairman, The Global Education and Leadership Foundation.

Extending the support to the initiative, the chief minister said that 50% of the country’s population is below 25 years of age and this demographic dividend would help in making India one of the greatest economies in the world.
