Fishermen save flamingo from crows in Mumbai

Mumbai city news: The bird was found floating motionless, while the crows were trying to peck it

Two fishermen rescued a greater flamingo from crows in Vitava creek, Kalwa around 1.30pm on Friday.

TSPCA officials said that the bird did not have any external injuries but was kept under observation throughout the afternoon. Around 5.30pm, it was released at the Kalwa creek. (HT photo)

According to Rajesh Kharkar and Rajnikant Bhagat, they found the bird floating motionless and while the crows were trying to peck it. They rushed to the spot, pulled the bird out of the water and carried it to the Ganesh Ghat creek area of Kopri in Thane and alerted the officials who admitted the flamingo to Thane SPCA (Thane Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

TSPCA officials said that the bird did not have any external injuries but was kept under observation throughout the afternoon. Around 5.30pm, it was released at the Kalwa creek.

Wildlife rescuers believe that the flamingo could have fallen into the creek after suffering heat exhaustion or a sun stroke.
