A fruit vendor has been arrested for allegedly sodomising a five-year-old boy in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, police said on Monday.

The 20-year-old accused took the boy from outside his house in Nallasopara, about 45 kilometres from Thane, at around 4pm on Sunday and sexually assaulted him at an isolated place in Kazi Chawl in Vakanpada, said assistant inspector SS Chowdhary of Valiv police station.
The child told his parents about the incident following which they filed a complaint and police arrested the accused from the same locality on Sunday evening, he said.
The official said that an offence was registered against the accused for unnatural sex under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
