In Mumbai: Auto union to protest in Dombivli on Sunday, commuters need not worry
The union members also claimed that vehicles of driving school violate norms by driving on the city streets during peak instead of teaching their students at an open space
Alleging bias against autorickshaw drivers, the Republican rickshaw chalak malak union, Dombivli, has decided to protest on August 13. The 500 members of Republican rickshaw chalak malak union will protest outside Dombivli (East) traffic division office. The members alleged that the officials were acting only against auto drivers and not private vehicles owners for violating traffic norms. They said the protest will start at 11am and will conclude soon, without inconveniencing commuters.

Acting on the numerous complaints from Dombivli residents, the traffic police and the regional transport office (RTO) collectively initiated a special drive to crack the whip on errant auto drivers in the twin cities. Most of the complaints were pertaining to refusal to, plying fourth seat and overcharging.
“Why is the traffic police targeting only us when there are schools buses and trucks plying in the city illegally? Law has to be equal for all,” said Rama Kakde, president of the union. “If the residents can raise their complaints, even we can. There are factors, other than us, which adds to the congestion in the city.”
The union members also claimed that vehicles of driving school violate norms by driving on the city streets during peak instead of teaching their students at an open space. The members also demanded deployment of a traffic police personnel at every legal auto stands and said it would curb the cases of refusal automatically.
“Before taking action, we will meet all the auto union members and hear out their demands. The traffic police is taking action against all the violaters,” said a traffic police inspector.
