IPS-IAS posting scam: Crime branch arrests Sangli resident from Mumbai

Mumbai city news: Investigations revealed Bandanawaz Maner tried to influence his victims by boasting about his contacts, which he said were politicians and a few senior IAS-IPS officers

The Mumbai crime branch arrested another accused on Tuesday in the government official posting scam. Bandanawaz Maner, a resident of Sangli district, visited Mumbai regularly.

Maner is the seventh person arrested for his alleged involvement in the scam. Officers said he was in touch with another accused, Ritesh Rekhunde alias Chandrakant. Maner was produced in court on Tuesday and remanded in police custody till June 17.

“Maner was arrested from Mumbai for his alleged involvement in the scam. A police team will visit his residence in Sangli and gather evidence,” said Sanjay Saxena, joint commissioner, Mumbai crime branch.

Investigations revealed Maner tried to influence his victims by boasting about his contacts, which he said were politicians and a few senior IAS-IPS officers.

“We are verifying Maner’s contacts and scrutinising his call detail record to find out if he has cheated government officials by luring them with plump postings,” said a crime branch officer.

The Mumbai crime branch raided a five star hotel near domestic airport on May 31 and arrested four people — Vidyasagar Hirmukhe, general manager of Mahanand Dairy, Vishal Ombale, Kshor Mali and Ravindra Sing Yadav. During the raid, they also seized Rs6.70 lakh and two cheques bearing large amounts.

During interrogation, the accused revealed involvement Kamlesh Kanade and Ritesh Rakhunde. Both were arrested and produced in court. They were remanded in police custody till June 14.
