Leave your artistic impression on Thane this December

The Thane Municipal Corporation will give you a chance to give wings to your artistic streak this December. The civic body has announced the ‘Paint The City Wall’ initiative wherein residents, housing complexes, schools and artists will paint the walls across the city on December 4. Apart from a few selected walls for professional artists, the residents can choose any wall in their locality to paint.

The only protocol to be followed is that the paintings should not be obscene, offend religious sentiments or be politically influenced, said civic commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal. (Praful Gangurde)

Civic commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal said, “We have joined hands with the residents, artists, schools and NGOs to paint the walls across the city. Painting them will not only beautify the city, it will also prevent them from being defaced by posters. We have shortlisted several walls which will be painted by professional artists, while the remaining will be painted by schoolchildren and residents.”

“We have kept the theme open. It can be based on lakes in the city, old settlements, Thane after 50 years, transformation of Ghodbunder Road or landmarks in the city. It can be any theme other than the city; there is no restriction on ideas. The only protocol to be followed is that the paintings should not be obscene, offend religious sentiments or be politically influenced,” said Jaiswal.

WHAT THEY SAID

“The civic commissioner has allotted us the wall opposite Singhania school. I will be painting realistic reflection of Thane as I want people to understand it.”

“We plan to paint the walls of several residential societies along Ghodbunder Road on the themes ‘Save the Girl Child’ and ‘Environmental Conservation’. We might come up with more innovative themes by December 4.”
